These chairs were made from Massaranduba, commonly called Brazilian Redwood, which is a very dense, weather and insect resistant species.  Using this wood made the chairs quite heavy which provided the solution to the client's problem of chairs blowing of their deck in high winds.  Several coats of marine varnsh were applied and the natural color of this wood, mostly used for decks, is beautiful.
